Greetings Fellow Randonneurs!

Great Lakes Randonneurs had another great year, despite the weather. 220 total riders on ALL brevets over our 5 weekends, 185 finishers, from Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Ohio, Georgia, and California.

  • 200K - 85 total riders, 77 finishers (90%)
  • 300K - 53 total riders, 47 finishers (89%)
  • 400K - 45 total riders,36 finishers (80%) - weather kicked everyone
  • 600K - 37 total riders, 25 finishers (68%) - weather kicked everyone
  • THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS

We had many volunteers assist me this year during registrations. My sincere thanks to all of you including those I may have missed: Bob Hayssen, Rob Molher, Bob Booth, Melissa Booth, John Gadbury, Dan Michael, Thomas Berube, Michele Brougher, Eric Peterson. All of the route preplanning, scoping, registration and route support cannot be done without the dedication and help from GLR members this past year:

    RBA TRANSITION REPORT

As you may have heard, upon approval of the RUSA board in July, Michele Brougher will step in as RBA for Great Lakes Randonneurs for 2016. I will not disappear. Matter of fact, you will see me at all of the Brevets in 2016 as a mentoring requirement of RUSA to maintain our multiple brevets over several weekends. I may even ride, sorry, only a 200K! But the hard part for me will be following Michele's instructions during registration. I look forward to passing the reins and having Michele bring new and interesting life into GLR's brevets, website, and perhaps the registration process. It has been a great pleasure to run GLR, and I look forward to its future.

FINALLY, to all you P-B-P RIDERS

To all of you going to P-B-P, a few words of wisdom and encouragement! First, congratulations on qualifying this year! It has been said many times, you cannot control the weather, but GLR brevet training this year gave you some great experience. You cannot control your stomach, take some Rolaids, they don't sell them commonly over in France. You CAN control your physical and mental status. Stay in shape beyond the brevet season and take a least a week to rest before P-B-P. And most importantly, remember, you set a goal for yourself to complete P-B-P. You CAN DO IT. Think of the 1200K in small increments; Finish each 200K or 300K or 400K in small events. Rest in-between each, and get up and keep riding. Matter of fact, its been said, when you wake up, GET UP! Your body only needed that little bit of sleep anyway. Achieve your GOAL! We know you can! GOOD LUCK to all of our Great Lake Randonneurs out at P-B-P this year! I wish I was there!

Your 2015 brevet cards for the GLR brevets, as certified by France, will be sent out by year's end.

Once again, the core leadership group and your RBA wish to THANK YOU for participating in the Great Lakes Randonneurs Brevet series and will enjoy seeing everyone again in 2016.

    Keep pedaling!

Jim Kreps - Regional Brevet Administrator

    Host hotel policies

    posted: January 12.2015

Our host hotel, the Super 8 in Delavan Wi has the following policies for us this year.

A small room block discounted rate (15 rooms per brevet weekend) using the name Great Lakes Randonneurs has been arranged for riders wishing to make reservations by calling the hotel directly (not available online). Call Rebecca or Shawn at the Super 8, at 1-262-728-1700. The room block, discounted fee, will be available until two weeks prior to each ride. No guarantees of room availability after that time. If rooms are still available after the initial 15 block is sold out, the discounted rate will still be given to those informing hotel staff they are with Great Lakes Randonneurs. Cancellation policy is NEW, revised to 6PM day of arrival.

Please, riders not staying at the Super 8 are asked to park across the street (Borg Road) and not within the Super 8 lot. Brevet on-site registration will be Friday evening, between 8PM ish and 10PM ish or Saturday morning 5AM to 30 minutes past the last ride departure time.

Eric has updated his GPX files for the 200k and 300k routes. They are available via the links in the route summary table near the top of of the correspnding route pages and via this link to his site: GPX files.

Preliminary 2015 Cue Sheets and Maps

The preliminary cue sheets and maps for the 200k and 300k are available via the links in the route summary table near the top of of the correspnding route pages. Eric is working to update our GPX files, they should be available shortly.

The route has two small changes and a potential detour. On the way into Brodhead the route will continue west on Avon North Townline to the T intersection on Co. T and then head north to the first control. This will simplify the routing and get us into the control a few minutes earlier. West of Edgerton, the route will continue east on Stebbinsville Rd. to the Y intersection after crossing over Stebbinsville Dam. Finally, the ongoing construction on the lower section of Co. Hwy. M may affect routing. RBA Jim will provide updated routing information at check-in if necessary.

    GLR Needs You!

We all like to ride, but do you like to explore new routes? Consider designing new routes? Would you consider helping younger Randonneurs in achieving their goals? Support day of registration events? Even help generate newsletter articles. At the end of the 2015 riding season, your RBA will likely retire and rejoin the ranks of brevet riders. If you have an interest in potentially taking GLR to the new levels, 2015 would be a great time to help out under the guidance of your RBA and fellow GLR leadership.
