Greetings Fellow Randonneurs,

In response to some of your feedback we've made a few changes to our brevet schedule this year.  The rides are now scheduled on a three week interval instead of two which will extend our riding season into July. Also, there will be two 400k and 600k rides instead of three.

If you're planning on riding brevets for ACP qualification for future 1200k events, you must be a RUSA member.  Please log onto rusa.org and renew or sign up for your membership.  Do not forget the low $5 GLR membership fee to keep you appraised of local events.

I look forward to riding with all of our new and returning GLR members,

Jim Kreps - Regional Brevet Administrator

First weekend ride statistics

posted: May 19

I just received ride summary data from last weekend's brevets. Weather was unseasonably chilly with occasional light rain and very strong northwest winds. Thirty eight riders started the 200k and eight started the 300k. A group of six riders along with our favorite mixed tandem finished the 200k in 8:40 with the remainder finishing in small groups throughout the day. A group of three brave and determined 300k riders finished in about 17.5 hours. All 300k starters finished however there were four DNF's on the 200k, most resulting from the challenging weather conditions.

Congratulations to all new and returning randonneurs! Hopefully the conditions will be more favorable at our next event.

Brevet Bike Shop Status

posted: May 17

The Bike Chalet in New Glarus has closed and leaves us without shop support over the first half of the 300k and all of the 200k - the Earth Rider shop in Brodhead closed a few years ago.

The Pro Cycle Bike Shop, (608) 437-9905, may still be open along the 300k route at 504 E. Main Street in Mount Horeb, a few blocks west of the first roundabout.

Atkins Verona Bicycle Shoppe, (608) 845-6644, is open at 517 Half Mile Road on the west side of Verona - about three miles off of the 300k route.

Cyclos Montagnards

The Cyclos Montagnards is an orginization that promotes the original spirit of randonneuring, with an emphasis on performance. They offer several Challenges and Honors that provide experienced riders with goals that keep randonneuring interesting. These absolute goals can be achieved by any number of riders, thus encouraging teamwork among riders instead of competition between them.

200k Ride Summaries

posted: May 15

Our season has begun. Two members have written ride summaries for last weekend's 200k. You can read Scott's on Facebook at: Great Lakes Randonneuring Report, 200k brevet and Adam's on his blog at: Randobeering.

Have you written a ride summary that might be of interest to your fellow randonneurs? Please bring it to our attention via the contact link at the bottom of the page and we'll add it to this section.

County Road M Construction Status

updated: May 16

The middle section of County Road M, SE of Milton, from CTH KK to CTH A has been barricaded and the 200k and 300k routes are being modified. The preferred detour will be to turn right off of M onto Emerald Green and follow that south to MM and take that east to rejoin M.

The 200k and 300k route maps have been updated to reflect these changes.

GPX File Updates

Eric has created GPX files for the brevet routes. They are available at: 2013 GLR Brevet GPX Files.

400k / 600k Brevet Route Updates

posted: April 16

The 400k & 600k routes are pending approval and will be posted when they become available. Both will travel northwest through Edgerton and around Madison on their way to Baraboo.

200k / 300k Brevet Route Updates

posted: April 16

The cue sheets & maps for this year's 200k & 300k brevets have been updated. They are available on our route information pages at: route: 200k and route: 300k in the route summary tables.

The routes are virtually identical to the 2012 routes with a few exceptions:

  1. Church Road will be used instead of Keesey on the way into Brodhead (construction);
  2. the 300k split will occur north of Brodhead at the St. John Road intersection with the 300k bearing left (west) and the 200k turning right (east) - also due to road construction; and
  3. the routes will be returning to Co. Hwy. M, southeast of Milton, to take advantage of several miles of new pavement.
